Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [GOA]

For Thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory, of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, now and forever and to the ages of ages.

Amen. Lord, have mercy. (12)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Both now and ever and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Come, let us worship and bow down before God our King.

Come, let us worship and bow down before Christ God our King.

Come, let us worship and bow down before Him, Christ our King and God.

Psalm 50 (51).

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. You shall make me hear joy and gladness; my bones that were humbled shall greatly rejoice. Turn Your face from my sins, and blot out all my transgressions. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your guiding Spirit. I will teach transgressors Your ways, and the ungodly shall turn back to You. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall greatly rejoice in Your righteousness. O Lord, You shall open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. For if You desired sacrifice, I would give it; You will not be pleased with whole burnt offerings. A sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, in Your good pleasure to Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built; then You will be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, with offerings and whole burnt offerings; then shall they offer young bulls on Your altar. CHOIR

Canon for the Trinity.

Ode i.

Mode 3. He who of old assembled. (NM)

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

Only source of Lordship beyond understanding, and single triple source of Godhead, now count me worthy of your radiance that shines with threefold light, that I may sing your praise, who are praised without ceasing by the mouths of Angels with thrice-holy hymns. [EL]

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

All the ranks of the Immaterial Beings reverently sing your praise, as creative cause, single, with triple light, most clearly sovereign; with them we multitudes of humans sing in harmony, and faithfully glorify with mouths of clay. [EL]

Glory.

Mind and Word and Spirit the theologians call you fittingly by means of symbols, signifying a birth without passion of the Son from you, O God, Father unbegotten, monarch of all things, and the divine procession of the Spirit. [EL]

Both now. Theotokion.

When as lover of humankind by nature, Word of God, you took to yourself the being of humankind, you shone with the triple, only sovereign light of the one Godhead, and showed to all that the most pure Virgin who gave birth to you has been glorified. [EL]

Ode iii.

Mode 3. Almighty and Most High. (NM)

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

Elias of old, by ordering the water to be poured three times on the logs of wood, disclosed the triple hypostasis of the single Lordship of God. [EL]

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

The transient nature of those born of earth praises you, the one immutable Creator with triple lights, and cries out to you: Master, from change of every kind deliver me and save me. [EL]

Glory.

Speaking with words equal to those of Prophets, famed Apostles and heralds of the faith, we believers glorify you, Trinity equal in operation, O God of all things. [EL]

Both now. Theotokion.

Christ came down from his high throne, as he loves humankind, to raise up humankind through you, All-pure, and made the light with triple sun shine for all. [EL]

Kathisma.

Mode 3. N/M (Seeing how beautiful.)

Christ, beyond being and only Lord and radiance of the Father who is eternally without beginning, and Spirit most divine, have mercy on your servants; for we have all sinned, but we have not deserted you. Therefore we beseech you, Lord in Three Persons, as you possess authority, from every calamity save what you fashioned. [EL]

Glory. Both now. Theotokion.

Mode 3. N/M (Seeing how beautiful.)

God, who is beyond being and Lord, was incarnate from you, through his goodness taking on our being and remaining what he was. Therefore as we honour him as God and man, we proclaim you, O all-pure, to be Mother of God without wedlock, as we glorify the mighty wonder of your conceiving without seed. [EL]

Ode iv.

Mode 3. You displayed. (NM)

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

A double shoot has sprung from the Father as from a root, the Son and the right Spirit, shoots of one nature and divinely planted, and flowers like him without beginning, as being three lights of the Godhead. [EL]

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

A double shoot has sprung from the Father as from a root, the Son and the right Spirit, shoots of one nature and divinely planted, and flowers like him without beginning, as being three lights of the Godhead. [EL]

Glory.

Serried ranks of spiritual Beings ceaselessly sing your praise, God beyond understanding. With them we glorify you as we say: Trinity beyond being save your servants as you love humankind. [EL]

Both now. Theotokion.

You have drawn us to your love, most merciful Word of God, who without change became incarnate for our sake and led us into the mystery of the one Godhead with triple light. Therefore we glorify you. [EL]

Ode v.

Mode 3. When Isaias in a figure. (NM)

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

Isaias when he saw in image the one Lordship, God in three persons being glorified by the unsullied voices of the Seraphim, was sent to go and proclaim the Being with triple light and the Unity with triple sun. [EL]

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

Isaias when he saw in image the one Lordship, God in three persons being glorified by the unsullied voices of the Seraphim, was sent to go and proclaim the Being with triple light and the Unity with triple sun. [EL]

Glory.

Unity with triple sun, who once brought to subsistence from non-being the nature of all things invisible and visible, rescue from temptations and trials of every kind those who faithfully praise you as one God and count them worthy of your glory. [EL]

Both now. Theotokion.

O Virgin, with love we sing your praise who have become the light-bearing and pure bridal chamber of God, and we have called you blessed. For Christ was born from you with two natures and two wills, being one of the Trinity and Lord of glory. [EL]

Ode vi.

Mode 3. An abyss of mercy. (NM)

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

As an alien in a foreign land Abraham was counted worthy to welcome in type the single Lord beyond being in three persons, in human form. [EL]

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

As an alien in a foreign land Abraham was counted worthy to welcome in type the single Lord beyond being in three persons, in human form. [EL]

Glory.

Direct the hearts of your servants to the unapproachable light and the brilliance of your glory, O Lord of triple sun, and grant that our souls may picture to themselves your ineffable glory. [EL]

Both now. Theotokion.

Open to me the gates of the light who was conceived from your womb, O all-pure, that I may see the ray with triple light of the Godhead, and glorify you the Sovereign Lady filled with light. [EL]

Kathisma.

Mode 3. N/M (Your confession.)

We hymn the might with triple sun of the divine, consubstantial nature, and let us cry out with voices that sing the thrice holy hymn: Holy are you, Father eternally without beginning; Holy are you, Son likewise without beginning, and Holy Spirit, our one God without division, Maker of all and lover of humankind. [EL]

Glory. Both now. Theotokion.

Mode 3. N/M (Your confession.)

A mighty wonder, how the uncontainable was confined within your womb, all-pure Maiden, and was incarnate and appeared as a man without undergoing mixture or division of the divine and unchanging Godhead. And so we ever proclaim you faithfully to be Mother of God and we glorify you. [EL]

Ode vii.

Mode 3. As of old you refreshed. (NM)

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

Show me to be wholly a shining temple of your Godhead with triple light, O Master, and by your light-giving rays to be higher than dread sinful blackness and passions, O God of our Fathers. [EL]

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

We proclaim one form of the Godhead in three hypostatic and separate identities, of Father, Son and Spirit, as we cry: Blessed are you, the God of our Fathers. [EL]

Glory.

God in three persons appeared to Abraham at the oak of Mambre, and through mercy he was given as reward for his hospitality Isaac. That God we now glorify him as God of our Fathers. [EL]

Both now. Theotokion.

The Creator of all things, becoming man in his goodness, appeared on earth from your virgin and immaculate womb, and made us divine, blessed Mother of God, all-pure, all-immaculate. [EL]

Ode viii.

Mode 3. In the unbearable fire. (NM)

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

Of the Father who has no beginning, as from a root, likewise without beginning have sprung up the Word and the Spirit, as shoots of the Godhead beyond being. They have revealed the one glory and power of the Trinity, whom all we believers praise to the ages. [EL]

[EL]

Glory.

With your beacon fires you train the heavenly Ranks to raise the hymn with never-silent thrice-holy songs, O Father, Word, one with him in form, and Spirit, might equal in strength and with triple light; therefore we sing your praise to all the ages. [EL]

Both now. Theotokion.

The oracles of the Prophets seeing from afar your Offspring, Mother of God, praised him as born without seed and beyond nature, Sovereign Lady; and with one accord we sing his praise as Lord, and highly exalt him to all the ages. [EL]

Ode ix.

Mode 3. New the wonder. (NM)

Holy Trinity, our God, have mercy on us and save us.

The godlike Ranks of Bodiless Powers yearn to mount on wings and to see plainly the glory with triple light, but they greatly reverence the unapproachable light and without ceasing cry aloud their hymn. In unison with them we glorify you, O Trinity, one single being. [EL]

[EL]

Glory.

With boundless love we too who are on earth, who have received from you a spiritual and rational soul, from our whole heart sing your praise, O Master, God of all things, in truth one single nature yet triple in persons. And so, Compassionate, as you are great in mercy, have compassion on us. [EL]

Both now. Theotokion.

Show me to be a light formed temple of your single Divinity of triple light, that in purity I may worship you, the Creator of all things; show me to be one who in spirit contemplates your ineffable glory, at the prayers of the only Mother of God; whom fittingly we magnify as greatly glorious. [EL]

Idiomela of the Lity.

Idiomelon 1.

From Menaion - - -

Mode 1.

Let us sing in praise of devout St. Athanasios, that never-setting luminary of the whole world. In the firmament of the Faith, he shone brighter than the sun, and by his beacon signals, he guided believers everywhere towards virtue. On the one hand, there were his God-inspired teachings and saving words of instruction, which he let flow from his lips like inexhaustible torrents; and on the other hand, there were his amazing deeds, and his angelic life-style, by which he appealed to others to be zealous. He demonstrated both, life-style and brilliant speech, in a godly manner, as the expert trainer that he was. We pray You, O Christ our God: At his entreaties protect Your flock, and reinforce the Orthodox Faith, in Your love for humanity. [SD]

Idiomelon 2.

Mode 2.

He loved Christ intensely; he was named for immortality; he was a genuine mystic of the Savior, and the pride and joy of all monastics, as well as their leader and guide; he was consecrated to the Lord from infancy. O choirs of Fathers, let us join together and extol St. Athanasios. When he conceived the love for God in himself, he left behind the deceptiveness of the world, and he took up the yoke of Christ on his shoulders. Bravely he put to flight the hoards of the demons, and he showed us in action the excellent race for divine love. He ran this very race himself, and he speedily attained the true light of the omnific Trinity. Ponder this exciting wonder and this phenomenon worthy of God: He was earthen in nature, and yet he became equal to the noetic beings. He has received glory and immense honor from God. And now he intercedes on our behalf, that we might obtain the eternal blessings on Judgment Day. [SD]

Idiomelon 3.

Mode 4.

Angels were astounded, humans were amazed, by the extraordinary feats of your ascetic life. For you were almost like one without flesh, even in your earthen body, and thus you wrestled with the invisible enemies. And now all generations of pious believers sing your praises, and especially your venerable flock, at that spectacular monument of your labors. You established it like a charming city in the wilderness, and you made it a reputable residence for countless monks. Your marvelous accomplishments and your brave contests adorn your monastery like expensive clothing. And your flock ever invokes your intercessions, O Athanasios, and your prayers for its protection by Christ, who have the great mercy. [SD]

Glory.

From Menaion - - -

Mode pl. 1.

Let us sound the trumpet with the clarion of song. For the grace of the Spirit, more sonorous than any trumpet, summons all to extol the God-bearing Father. Let the kings and princes marvel at the genuine servant of the King of all, at the man who in the full armor of the Spirit defeated the principalities and powers of the ruler of this world. O Shepherds and Teachers, let us extol the rule and model of expert pastoring, He was pure in doctrine, brave regarding the Faith. He was sublime in contemplation, and he soared in the active life. His teachings flowed like a river of delight. He was a guide for the wayward, a support for the unsteady, and very sympathetic towards all who were infirm. And in extolling him, as the great glory of Athos, let us all say to him, "Fellow of the holy fathers, O Athanasios, ever lead us, your spiritual family, as our Father, and save your flock, by your supplications" [SD]

Both now.

From Menaion - - -

Mode pl. 1.

Let us sound the trumpet with the clarion of song. For inclining from on high, the Queen of all and Virgin Mother crowns with her blessings those who extol her. Let the kings and princes run to gather together, and with hymns applaud her, the Queen who bore the King who, in His love for humanity, was well pleased to release those who were formerly prisoners of death. O Shepherds and Teachers, let us come together and praise the surpassingly pure Mother of the Good Shepherd. Let us praise her, for she is the golden lamp-stand, the light-bearing cloud, the one who is wider than the heavens, the animate Ark, the fiery throne of the Master, the golden urn holding the Manna, the gate of the Logos, which is closed shut. With songs inspired by God, let us extol her, as the shelter for all Christians. And in lauding her, let us say to her, "O Palace of the Logos, account us worthy, lowly that we be, of the Kingdom of heaven; for nothing is impossible, by your mediation." [SD]

Megalynaria to the Trinity

From Horologion - - -

Mode 2.

It is truly proper to extol the Trinity divine and holy: Unoriginate Father, Maker of all, co-eternal Logos, begotten before all time without change from the Father, and the all-holy Spirit, the Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father timelessly. [SD]

It is truly proper to extol and to glorify You, God the Logos. The Cherubim shudder and tremble at Him, and the Hosts of heaven offer hymns of glory to Him. For He resurrected from the grave on the third day. With fear let us glorify Him, Christ the Giver of Life. [SD]

With inspired anthems worthy of God, let us all sing praises to the Father and to the Son and the Holy Spirit, tri-hypostatic power, one Kingdom and Dominion, one Rule and Sovereignty. [SD]

Immaculate Virgin, when creation saw your Son risen, as befits God, it was filled with great joy and ineffable gladness, and it glorified the Savior, and it honored you. [SD]

Mode 3. Seeing how beautiful.

Angelic hosts on high were filled with wonderment, seeing your life in the flesh: how with your body you courageously went out to wrestle with invisible foes; and to the demonic hordes you inflicted serious wounds. Therefore, Athanasios, you received from the Master Christ, a wealth of gifts. Holy Father, intercede on our behalf with Christ our God, to save our souls. [SD]

Lord, have mercy. (40)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Both now and ever and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Greater in honor than the Cherubim, and in glory greater beyond compare than the Seraphim; you without corruption gave birth to God the Word, and are truly Theotokos. You do we magnify.
